VBS students do chores, set up lemonade stand to help people after disasters

The students at First Baptist Church in Iredell have been as busy as ever in an effort to help people after disasters.

The roughly 50 elementary-age children who participated in the church’s Vacation Bible School set up lemonade stands, did chores for others and even swept out the entire church to earn money to donate to TBM Disaster Relief.

“They knew you helped people in tornadoes and hurricanes and floods and provide meals and showers,” Pastor Neil Wade said. “They could tell you all about it. They knew where the money was going.”

Their efforts paid off in a big way. The children raised nearly $1,100 – far beyond their original goal of $200.

“It was a great experience,” Wade said. “The whole church was so proud of them. It was a great blessing to everyone.”

TBM Executive Director/CEO Mickey Lenamon praised the hard work of the students. All of the money will be used to help people after disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.

“Christ calls each of us to share God’s love,” Lenamon said. “These children are models of what that looks like. All of us have a role in God’s kingdom work. Because of what they did this summer, people will get the help they need in the middle of some of the most difficult days in their lives.”
