One year after tornados stunned Dallas, community shines through

One year ago today, a string of tornados stunned the Dallas area. That night, a wave of storms blew through the area, turning lives in large portions of the region upside down.

TBM chainsaw teams were serving within hours of the tornados. Going house to house, they were offering help, encouragement and prayer to shocked residents who still weren't quite sure how bad the damage was.

“It was a traumatic experience that I will never forget,” said Amanda Pritchard, who reached out to her congregation, First Baptist Church in Richardson, for help. The church called TBM.

TBM volunteers were in her neighborhood before the sun rose.

“We reached out to them after midnight when it happened and by 8 a.m. that morning, they were there, chainsaws in hand,” Pritchard said. “We didn’t know what to do, we would’ve been lost without them.”

Volunteers came from across the DFW Metroplex, even across the state. TBM saw people hurting and wanted to help them.

“I don’t want to say it was worth the tornado but having that at the end of it, completely transformed what I understood what community was,” she said. “It showed me what love and action really is and what it looks like, in the midst of utter chaos and darkness."
